Christmas & Holiday Events in San Diego, CA

Feel like ditching the snow and cold for a sunny, Southern California-style Christmas this year? We don’t blame you. Why not come join us here at Hotel Republic and enjoy our trademark Autograph Collection hospitality as well as prime access to the rich variety of holiday events on tap this December in America’s Finest City. Here are a few to consider for your Hotel Republic getaway!

Old Town Las Posadas

Saturday, December 15th marks the 69th edition of Old Town Las Posadas, a local version of the traditional Latin American procession based on the nativity of Jesus. The procession begins at 5 PM and comes followed up by piñata fun for the younger crowd as well as a s’mores-ready campfire in the Plaza.

San Diego Bay Parade of Lights

One of the signature holiday traditions in America’s Finest City, the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights—which takes place at 5 PM on Sunday, December 9th and again on Sunday, December 16th—sees some 80 decoratively illuminated boats promenade along the waterfront. Better than 100,000 locals and out-of-towners gather for the occasion, marking its 47th anniversary in 2018.

Vet & Pet West Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade

Also on Saturday, December 16th, some four-legged (and feathered) San Diegans and their owners will be strutting their holiday spirit in the historic Gaslamp Quarter not far from Hotel Republic. The Vet & Pet West Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade steps off at 2 PM from beneath the Gaslamp Quarter Archway and follows Fifth Avenue, E Street, and Fourth Avenue to wrap up at the Holiday Pet Market (which runs from noon to 5 PM) at MLK Promenade Park. Come see everything from pooches to parakeets decked out in seasonal finery!

Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade

The very biggest balloon parade in the country will once again put on an epic spectacle along the San Diego waterfront ahead of the Holiday Bowl on December 31st, which this year features the Northwestern Wildcats against the Utah Utes. Join 100,000-plus spectators for the razzle-dazzle procession, which begins at 10 AM and features—besides the supersized balloon characters, in fuller force than in any other parade—some outstanding marching bands and drill teams and a slew of fine-looking floats.
