Hotel Near Best Beaches in San Diego

We call our style here at Hotel Republic “Beach Chic,” and that’s not just an aesthetic point. Stay with us here at our Autograph Collection hotel in Downtown San Diego, and you’ve got some beautiful sandy seashores at your disposal: some of the best of any city in the country!

Here’s a brief roundup of just some of the great beaches awaiting your seaside pleasure…

Ocean Beach

Ocean Beach delivers a mile-long stretch of friendly sands overseen by a permanent lifeguard station. The beach also serves up (if you will) a volleyball zone and includes at its north end (Dog Beach) the only 24-hour dog-friendly beach in San Diego. You can take a stroll on (or cast a line from) the Ocean Beach Municipal Pier jutting out from the beach’s south side, too.

Mission Bay Beaches

San Diego’s premier aquatic playground, Mission Bay boasts 19 miles of sandy beach amid its convoluted shoreline: Bonita Cove, Sail Bay, Tecolote Cove, Leisure Lagoon, Crown Point, De Anza Cove, and others.

Coronado Municipal Beach

The twinkling sands of Coronado Municipal Beach rank among the most celebrated in the region: In 2012, “Dr. Beach”—aka Professor Stephen P. Leatherman of Florida International University—declared this the No. 1 beach in the USA in his high-profile annual survey. Spread between Coronado City Beach, Glorietta Bay Park, Centennial Park, and Tidelands Park, Coronado Municipal Beach also happens to serve as one of the very best sunset-watching spots in the metro area.

Children’s Pool Beach

This sheltered beach (another of the permanently lifeguarded ones) is popular among both beachgoing families and scuba divers—not to mention harbor seals, which pup here. (The Children’s Pool is closed through May 15th to give the seal-maternity operations some room.)

La Jolla Cove

Hugged by palm-dotted cliffs, La Colla Cove easily makes one of the best known and most postcard-perfect of San Diego County’s beaches. And if you feel like getting wet, the calm waters here—part of the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve—offer superb snorkeling and diving.

Black’s Beach

Another genuine beauty, Black’s Beach (aka Torrey Pines City Beach) lies below the fabled cliffs of Torrey Pines and is reached by a steep downhill trail.
