Prime spots to watch from shore include Cabrillo National Monument, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, and Torrey Pines Natural Reserve (also an all-around fine place for a winter hike in the San Diego area).

Holiday Happenings in San Diego

Balboa Park’s normal December Nights festivities are still on hiatus given the global pandemic, but the drive-through “Taste of December Nights” alternative will again be underway this year from December 3rd through the 5th, featuring food trucks and other vendors as well as live entertainment. You can also see some adorable four-legged friends in the Gaslamp Quarter’s Pet Parade.
